Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2018 Opens in Denver

More than 1,400 global brands and 30,000 attendees expected to unite for the first summer show in the Mile High City

DENVER—(July 23, 2018) — Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, the largest U.S. trade show and premier business event for the outdoor industry, opens today in Denver. More than 1,400 global brands will showcase the latest gear, apparel, footwear, trends and technology over four days at the Colorado Convention Center, expecting to attract over 30,000 attendees. Outdoor Retailer Summer Market runs Monday, July 23 – Wednesday, July 25 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and on Thursday, July 26 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. It will be the largest trade show held at the convention center.

“Outdoor Retailer Summer Market brings together the heart and soul of the community under one roof for the purpose of debuting next generation product, conducting business, exchanging best practices, making new connections and seeing old friends,” said Marisa Nicholson, vice president and show director for Outdoor Retailer. “This show builds upon the success we all experienced this past January with the first Outdoor Retailer Snow Show and meets the preference of the industry by more closely reflecting the buying cycle. Denver has shown its true colors again by warmly welcoming us with open arms, providing a terrific venue for our first Demo Experience and what will be a great week.”

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market encompasses all three floors of the Colorado Convention Center, as well as the adjacent Sculpture Park which becomes Tent City, presented by DAC Pole – a display area for tents and hammocks.

Specialty areas throughout the convention center highlight product categories and trends, including Venture Out, where brands are pushing the limits in the outdoor industry. The High Altitude Den is a dedicated space for climbing brands that houses a new freestanding climbing boulder. The Trend + Design Center is located in the Source section and is presented by HeiQ, focusing on the latest materials and technology for the design audience.

In addition to seeing next season’s products, attendees can join education sessions and workshops taking place every day. At The Camp, located on the Upper Level, all-day programming touches on all facets of the industry, including sustainability, merchandising, diversity, and manufacturing, along with cooking demos and the university series. At the RANGER Station, found in Venture Out, topics cover trend updates, displays, and conservation, plus provide space for creative collaboration. The Trend + Design Center anchors the supplier story and serves design professionals with compelling education featuring speakers from some of the preeminent trend experts in the business. Also, within the SOURCE area, bluesign® sustainability workshops will take place daily. The High Altitude Den provides climbing-focused sessions and belay certifications by the American Alpine Club.

The show kicked off Sunday with the first Demo Experience, sponsored by QUIKSILVER WATERMAN / ROXY, in Denver at Confluence and Commons Parks and provided the opportunity to test kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, fly fishing gear, electric bikes and more. The first day of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market began with the Outdoor Industry Association Industry Breakfast on Monday.

Tuesday evening is the Night of Stoke presented by 5Point Film Festival at the Bellco Theater. The event is open to the public and showcases a selection of the outdoor industry’s most inspirational and impactful adventure films. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the program set to begin at 7:15 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the night benefit the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Tickets are available for purchase at 5pointfilm.org.

Nearly 300 new exhibitors are at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, covering a wide range of categories, from the growing overland trend to specialty surf to beverage brands and more. The complete list of exhibitors is available at outdoorretailer.com and on the app.

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market is the second of three shows hosted by Outdoor Retailer this year in Denver. In January, the Outdoor Retailer Snow Show was the first event in Denver; the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, with an innovation theme, will take place at the Colorado Convention Center from November 8-11, 2018.

“Combined, the three Outdoor Retailer events in 2018 are expected to generate an economic impact of $110 million and attract an estimated 85,000 industry professionals to the City of Denver,” continued Nicholson. “We have excellent partners that make this schedule possible, including the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, Visit Denver and the many hotels and restaurants that will be hosting attendees.”
