  • Company of the Year
  • Safety Product of the Year
  • New Product of the Year
  • Avalanche Educator of the Year

Ambassador of the Year - Jeremy Jones
Few riders can claim to have had as much influence as Jeremy Jones, and even fewer are still producing banger video parts with his level of consistently noteworthy progression. A member of the original Forum Eight with outstanding parts in every Mack Dawg movie from Decade to Double Decade, Jeremy’s technical skills and all-terrain prowess have redefined freestyle for a new generation. Jeremy got his first photo published in a 1996 issue of Snowboarder, and dropped a part in Mack Dawg and Kingpin Production’s 1997 movies. The rest is legendary—from Snowboarder and Transworld covers to classic appearances in the first
Forum team movies, to his 2003 switch to Burton, he’s never slowed down. Even with his status as a movie-part master secured and a family at home in Utah, Jeremy is nowhere near finished. While other careers have faded, he’s still on the move.

Educator of the Year - Dean Cummings
Dean Cummings is internationally recognized as one of the preeminent big mountain skiers, world champion skiers and mechanized ski guides working in glaciated terrain in the world today, and is a renowned leader in outdoor safety and avalanche awareness education. He was the Team Captain of the US Freestyle Ski Team and later competed on the World Extreme Skiing circuit and claimed the World Title Championship in 1995. Dean recognized the critical need for avalanche education and started a practical avalanche awareness training program for the general public in Valdez, AK in 1997, and was instrumental in the founding the North America Outdoor Institute (NAOI).  He authored and crafted the “Be Snow Smart” education program, which annually reaches 20,000 people with practical, easy to implement recreation safety procedures.

New Product of the Year - BCA Float 18 Airbag
Affordability, a thin profile and a lightweight design make the Float 18 a no-brainer for those bagging sidecountry laps or those with a minimalist backcountry approach. Offering 18 liters of gear storage, features include; internal shovel and probe pockets, helmet and diagonal ski carrying system and waist belt pockets. This pack is perfect for riders who insist on fresh lines outside the ski areas.

Safety Product of the Year - BCA Tracker 2 Beacon
Tracker2 offers the industry's fastest, most precise pinpointing, with triple receive antenna, instantaneous real–time display, and same easy–to–use interface as Tracker DTS. An intuitive mechanical search/transmit switch makes it even easier to use right out of the box. Thinner profile and harness than Tracker DTS. Includes Special mode and multiple burial indicator lights.

Company of the Year - POW
Protect Our Winters (POW) was started in 2007 by pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones who witnessed first-hand the impact of climate change on our mountains. After having been turned away from areas that had once been ride-able and seeing resorts closed due to lack of snow, Jeremy saw a gap between the winter sports community and the action being taken by us all to address the problem. We represent the global snow sports community – there are 21 million of us in the US alone. Clearly, it's time for us all to step up and take responsibility to save a season that fuels our passions but is also the foundation for our livelihoods, our
jobs and the economic vitality of our mountain regions. POW was founded on the idea that the collective power of the winter sports community is massive, and if we can all work together, the end result can be revolutionary. Together We Can Protect Our Winters.

Badass of the Year - Kenji Haroutunian

Sundance Film Festival

Committed to exploring the ways the outdoors and the values of the people who live, work and play there intersect around the world, OR is very proud to be a 2012 Institute Associate of the world-renown Sundance Film Festival.  Our involvement is a natural extension of OR Rocks!, where we deliberately seek to celebrate the music, art and films that feed our collective drive to get outdoors.

The two events run with some concurrent dates (Outdoor Retailer: January. 19-22 and Sundance Film Festival: January. 19-29) and share Salt Lake City as a host city for the trade show and some of the film festival’s multi-city events.

The agreement includes a year-round relationship with the Sundance Institute and an Outdoor Retailer-operated, outdoor-centric art gallery and event space, ‘Innovation Gallery by Outdoor Retailer,’ on Main Street in Park City. Designed with a handful of industry manufacturers, the space helps share the history of and emerging technologies in the outdoor industry. The Festival will use the space for invitation-only events, hosting film makers, media and VIP festival guests.

OR would like to encourage all attendees to explore the festival line-up and has highlighted several films that speak to outdoor adventure and promote the protection of our endangered wild lands. For a complete listing and to purchase tickets, please visit Sundance.org/festival/tickets/. Open ticket sales for Sundance Festival films begin January 17 and are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so start your planning now!
